Black Forest - hiking, cycling & pure nature

The central Black Forest begins right on our doorstep: picturesque valleys, dense forests and charming villages are just waiting to be discovered. Numerous hiking and cycling trails, such as the Schuttertal cycle path or the Ortenau castle route, invite you to enjoy active recreation.

  • The treetop walk leads over footbridges and towers through the treetops of the Black Forest and offers breathtaking views. Visitors learn a lot about the flora and fauna of the region on the approximately 1.5 km long circular trail. A viewing tower with panoramic views awaits at the end.
  • Lake Mummelsee is an idyllic mountain lake in the northern Black Forest. It lies at an altitude of around 1,000 metres and is surrounded by fairytale forests. You can hike here, walk around the lake or simply enjoy the peace and quiet.
  • The Black Forest National Park is a beautiful nature reserve with numerous hiking trails that lead through dense forests and along streams. Here, nature lovers can observe wild animals such as deer, wild boar and a variety of birds. We particularly recommend a visit to the Ruhestein Black Forest Museum, which offers exciting insights into the natural and cultural history of the Black Forest.   • The Hornisgrinde is the highest peak in the Northern Black Forest Nature Park. There are numerous hiking trails here that lead to spectacular views. The nature park is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and nature watching.
  • The Schauinsland is a 1,284 metre high mountain in the Black Forest, about an hour away from Lahr. From there, you have a fantastic view of the entire Black Forest and the Rhine Valley. The mountain is famous for hiking as well as for visiting the Schauinsland mine.
  • The Feldberg is the highest mountain in the Black Forest and a popular destination for hiking and winter sports. In winter it is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders, while in summer hikers and nature lovers can enjoy the magnificent views.
  • The Schluchsee is a picturesque lake in the Upper Black Forest, surrounded by forests and hills. There are numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, swimming and boat trips.
  • Lake Titisee is a very popular destination in the Upper Black Forest, known for its beautiful mountain lake and the charming little town of Titisee-Neustadt. Here, visitors can hike, swim, go boating or simply enjoy the view. Titisee-Neustadt is home to the Badeparadies Schwarzwald, an adventure and wellness centre that offers its visitors both relaxation and fun. It comprises several areas suitable for all ages and tastes.
  • Zell am Harmersbach is a charming Black Forest town known for its historic old town and the Zellertor. The walk along the Harmersbach valley, which offers numerous hiking and cycling trails, is particularly beautiful.
  • The Vogtsbauernhof is an open-air museum that offers insights into the life of Black Forest farmers in the 16th century. Visitors can view traditional houses and craftsmanship.
  • Alpirsbach is known for its medieval abbey and the Alpirsbach monastery brewery, where visitors can learn more about traditional beer brewing. Alpirsbach is also a good starting point for hikes through the Black Forest.

  • Kintzheim in Alsace offers a unique combination of nature, animals and history, ideal for a varied excursion. The Monkey Mountain is a nature park where free Barbary macaques live. Visitors can observe the animals in their natural environment and even feed them. The Eagle and Wolf Park in Kintzheim is a great attraction that specialises in birds of prey such as eagles, vultures and falcons as well as wolves. Visitors can experience these impressive animals in a natural environment and take part in flight demonstrations where the birds show off their hunting techniques. The wolves can also be observed in their enclosure.
  • The Haut-Koenigsbourg castle (Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg) is one of the most famous and impressive castles in Alsace. It is located around 10 kilometres north-west of Kintzheim and is enthroned on the Haut-Koenigsberg, one of the highest mountains in Alsace. The castle offers interesting exhibitions and an authentic insight into the history of the region.
  • Only about 40 minutes from the hotel, Strasbourg with its beautiful historic centre and the impressive Strasbourg Cathedral is a worthwhile destination for day trips.
